Are you connected to the ancestor Jacques Bilodeau?

First, here’s a brief explanation of the meaning of these « Branches » in the presentation of our Bilodeau genealogy:

The idea is to be able to render a little more concretely the position that each Bilodeau occupies in relation to the other Bilodeaus on the Bilodeau family tree.

To do this, we took as a starting point the three sons of ancestor Jacques who had children, namely Jean, Antoine, and Simon.

Then, we assigned a branch to Jean’s five children who had descendants, each numbered from I to V, and combined it with the child’s first name. Example: Branch I, Marie-Anne son of  Jean.

Then, we did the same with Antoine’s eight children, branches VI to XIII, as well as Simon’s five children, branches XIV to XVIII. With this system, we intend to encompass all of Jacques and Geneviève’s descendants without distinction. Branch Numbering by the Genealogy Committee

The Genealogy Committee has reviewed the branch numbering.

We wanted to:

• respect the rule of primogeniture, that is, classify people according to the order of their birth (except for Branch XIII, which was added later) and not according to the order of their marriage.
• include all of Jacques and Geneviève’s descendants. To this end, we assigned a branch number to all of Jacques and Geneviève’s grandchildren who had children, regardless of whether there are descendants to the present day, as it was impossible for us to prove in some cases that there were descendants to the present day for certain branches.
• use the custom that exists in certain regions of Quebec to identify people, for example: Joseph to Louis to Arthur, and thereby better understand our ancestors.
